Upgrade it ASAP. Depending on your stats you can make the money back in an hour or two by doing thieving or agility pyramid so it's really worthwhile. Staff is basically the only mage weapon you use until 90+ in most combat stats. Dont forget you can get to the well faster by going in the pass from elf side too.Iban Blast vs Steel Dragons.
